Celery - Let's Stalk About It

What’s all the hype? Who’s taken up the habit of drinking this tasty (read: nasty) green juice every morning? Well, actually, I have. But why?!

I have colitis, and have had it for many years. Luckily it’s been in remission for most of those years, but I do get bouts of IBS once in a while - for instance when I consume too much sugars or other inflammatory foods (future blog post).

Anyway, I recently read an article that talked about the “false positives” of drinking celery juice, which got me thinking, Did I just get caught up in the hype, or is it actually helping me?

"What's all the hype?"

First, I have to mention that the process I use is the one found in this book by Anthony William, called Medical Medium Celery Juice, which, very broadly, mentions the following requirements: freshly juiced every morning, at least 16 ounces, on an empty stomach, and waiting 30 minutes before eating anything else. Of course, there are additional suggestions that are recommended as well. If reading about celery sounds interesting to you, pick up a copy here so you can dig deeper and make your own informed decision. There’s some fascinating info in there that I wish I could cover in its entirety.

I’ve been drinking it this way for about 7 months as of this article’s date. The benefits I have discovered are:

- Less gas and bloating

- Easier digestion

- Better hydration

Now I'm not saying this is a cure-all; it is not some magic elixir that was introduced in 1897 while touting the benefits of snake oil. However, it is a great addition to my already pretty healthy diet. My results have been very noticeable. And I've also noticed that if I skip a few days of this morning ritual, my regularity suffers.

It's not just me. I've talked to others that have noticed the benefits as well. I’ll never forget the woman I met while in line at the post office. She was carrying a big bottle of green juice. I asked her if it was celery, and she replied with, “Yes I love it. It’s done so much for me. I used to be on medication for arthritis. Since I started drinking celery juice a year ago, I haven’t needed my medication.” Interesting, huh? Please comment below with your own experiences. And stay tuned for my blog post on my favorite juicing method.
